Quote- "George, how long's it gonna be till we ge that little place an' live in the fatta the lan'-an' rabbits?"

This quote shows that Lennie and George are working hard towards getting themselves a nice little place to call home so that they don't have to move around looking for work all the time. This dream gives them the motivation and drive to work hard each and everyday until they have the money to by that little place to call home.

If me and Lennie work a month and don't spend nothing at all, we'll have a hundred bucks. That would be forty-four. I bet we could swing her for that. Then you and Lennie could go get her started and I'd get a job and make up the rest. You could sell eggs and stuff like that.

This quote shows that George, Lennie and Candy are willing to work hard for the house of thier dreams. The house represents the freedom they will have when they buy it. They won't have to answer to a boss day-in and day-out.

  3. "Guys like us got no family. They makea little stake an' then they blow it in. They ain't got nobody in the worl' that gives a hoot in hell about 'em-- But not us because I got you an'"
"an' i got you. We got each other, that's what. that gives a hoot in hell about us"

I agree with the theme because with nothing to work torward the other workers only drift on, work and spend what they make just to move on again with no purpose other than to blow what they makw. But with George he has Lennie to look out for meaning he has to make a stake to buy a home to take care of Lennie. Working torwards that he and Lennie work hard and have each other to keep that dream in focus.

Quote-"I seen hundreds of men come by on the road an' on the ranches, with their bindles on their back an' that same damn thing in their heads . . . every damn one of 'em's got a little piece of land in his head. An' never a God damn one of 'em ever gets it. Just like heaven. Ever'body wants a little piece of lan'. I read plenty of books out here. Nobody never gets to heaven, and nobody gets no land."

I suggest this theme-"When working for a dream for too long, one can lose sights of their goal."

  5. Quote- "With us it ain't like that. We got a future. We got somebody to talk to that gives a damn about us. We don't have to sit in no bar room bowin' in our jack jus' because we got no place else to go. If them other guys gets in jail they can rot for all anybody gives a damn. But not us."

In this quote Lennie and George are trying to said, even though without money they can still work toward their uiltimate goal. Without each other they have no company and nobody to talk to; but with each other they give life more meaning and keep the hope alive.

  6. Quote-"O.K. Someday- we're gonna get the jack together and we're gonna have a little house and a couple acres an' a cow and some pigs and-"

They work hard day and night to achieve the their dream because the way they live now is so hard that they have to move from one places to another to find work and able to give get money. George is telling Lennie, his hope one day of hitting the jackpot with that jackpot they would buy a house and a couple of acres of land. Where they could grow vegetable and be able to have farm animals. They could live a happy and simple life without having a boss to tell them what to do and they would be their own boss.

  7. I disagree with this quote. I suggest the quote offered by Jose.

"I seen hundreds of men come by on the road an' on the ranches, with their bindles on their back an' that same damn thing in their heads . . . every damn one of 'em's got a little piece of land in his head. An' never a God damn one of 'em ever gets it. Just like heaven. Ever'body wants a little piece of lan'. I read plenty of books out here. Nobody never gets to heaven, and nobody gets no land."

Although dreams may prove as inspiration for getting you somewhere, dreams can also fill a person with a feeling of sorrrow and dispair. They can be the very foundation of setting oneself up for disaster. In this story, Lennie's dream was ultimately too cumbersome and resulted in the death of his closest friend. He will have to reevaluate his ambitions.

Lennie said softly, "We could live offa the fatta the lan'."
"Sure," said George. "All kin,s vegetables in the garden, andif we want a little whisky we can sell a few eggs or something, or some milk. We'd just live there. We'd belong thre. There wouldnt be no more runnin' round the country and gettin' fed by a Jap cook. No sir, we'd haveour own place where we belonged and not sleep in no bunk house."

This quote says that everyone has their own dream and hope to one day achive it. Lennie and George have their dream to one day have a place to call their own without having somebody to boss them around all day, or to sleep in bunks, or to be traveling from place to place. They give their lives a reason to keep living and working.People need dreams to work for in order to live because most people in my opinion the reason they live for is to achive their dreams.

There wouldnt be no more runnin' round the country and gettin' fed by a Jap cook. No sir, we'd have our own place where we belonged and not sleep in no bunk house."

This quote shows how a dream and a passion to pursue the dream can bring hope and life into something. These two men had a dream of one day living a better life. They had a strong desire to have their own place where they could grow their own food instead of being fed. They dreamed of a place where they could sleep in their own beds and not have to share a bunk house with other people. This dream gave them a reason to work hard every day and never give up. They had hope that one day their dream will become reality. Working towards a dream definetly gives a purpose and hope in life. To Lennie and George, the dream of having their own place gave them a purpose and a motive to work. It gave them a purpose to strive and try hard everyday. Working towards the dream brought a purpose to their lives.

If sombody in life has a goal or a dream, they will do their best to accomplish it. Lennie and George had a dream to own land with animals and vegetables. They had a motivation in life to keep on working hard to one day accomplish it. If it wasn't for their dreams and goals their woudn't be a reason to work for. That's what motivated this two men to work, to live a better life in which they would enjoy. They wouldnt have to worry about stinky dogs, bunking beds, or dealing with any situations. They would have one another and the jov of accomplishing their goal in have a better life, and that they earned by their own sweat and hard work!!

"We got ten bucks between us." Then he said thoughtfully, "Look, if me an' Lennie work a month an' don't spen' nothing, we'll have a hundred bucks. That'd be four fifty. I bet we could swing her for that. Then you an' Lennie could go get her started an' I'd get a job an' make up the res', an' you could sell eggs an' stuff like that."

Candy joined George and Lennie in the dream of getting there own little place. This quote shows me that they really wanted a place of their own. They were planning on how to get her(the house) started and this gave George, Lennie, and Candy the motivation to work harder and not give up. To accomplish their dream of not having to work for nobody but themselves. Having a purpose in life gives you a motivation to work harder for it, to be able to accomplish it. George,Lennie, and Candy wanted to accomplish their dream of having their own land and now they had a motivation to keep on working until they reached it.

Lennie and George were both working very hard to later on have a place on their own with rabbits and vegetables, Just a place they could call home and not take any orders from anyone. Unfortunatley, working toward their dreams never came about.Their purpose in life was to actually own a place for themselves. They had hope that they would accomplish their dream but it turned out how crooks had said with all the other workers that have a piece of land they want to have and it never becomes a reality. With Lennie's death just proves even though you work really hard towards something as a dream, doesn't mean you will always achieve it.

Dreams are desires for the future. Although they often may never be reached, they create ambition in a person's life. George and Lennie's dream is to have their own land where they don't have to depends on anyone else, where they can be their own boss, and live peacefully with everything they need. That dream gives them a reason to keep working and motivates them to put up with all the negatives surrounding them.
A dream is usually never reached, but that's explained by it's own definiion. It is only a vision imagined by someone. However, the struggle put forth to reach it is what make a life worth while.

i agree with the theme. Lennie and george had a goal in life. They had a reason to wake up every morning. Hoping one day they would achieve their goal. Without a goal there is no purpose in living. However every person has different situations like lennie for example died and never achieved his goal. What would of happened if he would of lived and george never killed him? i believe he would have achieved his goal scince both george and lennie together had what it took to own land.lennie had the strength and george had the brains. Every situation is different!
